Lincoln Reading

This morning Lincoln was up just before 5. I was pleased that he slept through the night for the first time since the time change, but even 5 is too early. I let him be until about 5:10 when I realized that if I was going to get back to sleep at all I'd have to go up first.

I went up and told Lincoln that it was too early for me to be awake. I had him go potty and then I turned his light on and told him to read or play quietly and not to get into trouble. He looked at me and in all seriousness said that he wouldn't get into any trouble.

[Aside: I got him 6 new books 2 days ago. He has heard 5 of them 3 or 4 times only. The other one is a book of silly lyrics to songs we sort-of know. So, we've sung some of some of the songs a few times and the rest only once.]

When I got back downstairs Lincoln had chosen the silly song book (which is his hands-down favorite right now) and was singing "Take me out of the bath" over and over again - 15 or 20 times. Then he turned the page and was making up the words to the other songs as best as he could - and that was amazingly good.

So, I got the monitor and instead of going back to sleep, I laid in bed with the monitor to my ear, happily listening to Lincoln read through all of his new books. He was amazing at recalling some of the exact words in the books and in all cases, the exact story. He's only heard these stories a few times!!! I almost got up and got the video camera - to at least record his voice through the monitor. I thought he was almost done plenty of times so I never did get up to get it. But I definitely should have - he moved on from his new books to other ones and that was even better because his annunciation was perfectly clear with those. Probably a combination of less excitement and more familiarity.

It was a wonderful way to lose sleep!

Eventually both boys were awake and downstairs with Doug and I. They played nicely together and were both really happy. We had a wonderful morning!
